Podcast: Welcome to Night Vale

nightvalelogo-webNight Vale may not be a place you’d like to live, but it’s also not a place you’d like to visit. It is, however, a place you want to hear about people living in and visiting. Night Vale is a town somewhere in the desert, presumably in the United States, where weird stuff is the norm. Secret organizations, unknowable monsters, pawn shops that are fronts for the One World Government, people disappearing and reappearing, rifts in the space-time continuum, mysterious lights in the sky and a not-so-friendly rivalry with the hated nearby town of Desert Bluff. Or, at least, that’s how the very funny and entertaining podcast Welcome to Night Vale presents the town.

Done as a community radio show, Welcome to Night Vale gives you all the top news, gossip, and warnings from the fictional town of Night Vale. It’s humorous and bizarre and a beautifully constructed update to radio plays from yesteryear. Produced by Commonplace Books, written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor and narrated by Cecil Baldwin, this podcast generally runs 20 to 30 minutes per twice-monthly episode, and as an additional bonus you also get independent music during the Weather segment in each episode. That’s like 2 ‘Stashes for the price of 1!

Be warned: you will get sucked in and very quickly find yourself thinking that you are a citizen of Night Vale. A foolish, scared, insignificant citizen in need of reprogramming by the devious City Council.
